How This Discount Calculator Works

This discount calculator helps you work out how much money you save when a percentage discount is applied to a price. It shows the discount amount, the final sale price, and the total saving in a simple breakdown.

You start by entering the original price and the discount percentage. The calculator then multiplies the original price by the discount rate to find the amount taken off, before subtracting that from the original price to give the discounted total.

There is also an optional VAT setting so you can estimate the final amount when VAT is involved. This can be useful for comparing net and gross discount scenarios.

It is useful for shopping, invoices, trade pricing, and quick comparisons between sale offers.

Original price The starting price before any discount is applied.
Discount rate The percentage reduction you want to apply, such as 10%, 20%, or 50%.
VAT options You can ignore VAT or estimate how the final price changes when VAT is applied before or after the discount.
Final price The calculator shows the new price after the discount and any VAT treatment selected.

Discount Calculator FAQs

This calculator works out the discount amount and final sale price after a percentage reduction has been applied to the original price.
To calculate a discount, multiply the original price by the discount percentage, then subtract that amount from the original price.
The sale price is the original price minus the discount amount. For example, if something costs £100 and has a 20% discount, the sale price is £80.
Yes. This calculator includes optional VAT settings so you can estimate outcomes when VAT is involved, although it is still designed as a simple discount tool.
It is accurate for standard discount maths and quick pricing estimates, but it does not account for retailer-specific pricing rules, multi-buy offers, or advanced tax scenarios.
That depends on the pricing setup. Some businesses discount the net amount before VAT is added, while others compare savings against VAT-inclusive prices. This calculator lets you estimate both approaches.
